This ornament is inspired by the Cherry Trees surrounding the Tidal Basin. Their blooms have been a trademark in Washington D. C. since 1912.

The first trees were a Japanese gift symbolizing friendship, and herald the beginning of each spring in the Nation’s Capitol, with the iconic sea of pink blossoms.
