Cherry Blossom Fans Bookmark

  • $ 16.00

The folding fan, or Sensu, was invented in the Japanese court between the 6th and 9th centuries. By the 15th century, traders were exporting huge numbers of Japanese fans to the rest of the world. By the 18th century, European ladies of all social standings carried them, and by the 19th century, Impressionist painters scattered their paintings with women holding sensu-type fans.
